The Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España 2024 has firmly placed Málaga at the forefront of international golf. With over 70 courses and home to 67% of Andalusia’s golf facilities, Costa del Sol continues to dominate as a European leader in golf tourism, particularly within the women’s segment.
From November 28 to December 1, the prestigious Real Club de Golf Guadalhorce will host this major event, showcasing why the Costa del Sol, often referred to as the “Costa del Golf,” is Europe’s premier golfing destination.
At the tournament’s press launch, Esperanza González, CEO of Turismo Costa del Sol, underscored the region’s dedication to promoting golf, with a special focus on encouraging growth in women’s golf. “The Costa del Sol is the leading golf destination in continental Europe, boasting more than 70 courses across 16 municipalities and representing 67% of Andalusia’s golfing infrastructure,” González stated.
Golf has not only elevated Málaga’s reputation as a luxury travel destination but also established itself as a significant economic driver for the region. González highlighted how the sport attracts a high-spending demographic, significantly benefiting industries such as hospitality, transport, and retail. Golf tourism has also been instrumental in countering seasonality, drawing visitors during off-peak seasons and supporting the destination’s sustainability efforts.
Visitor satisfaction is a standout aspect, with an impressive average rating of 9.24 out of 10. Key factors such as the quality of courses, safety, and value for money contribute to this success. “An incredible 98.7% of golfers recommend the Costa del Sol as a golfing destination,” González emphasized.
The Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España 2024 is a testament to Málaga’s ongoing efforts to position itself as a global leader in golf tourism. As the region continues to invest in this high-value segment, the Costa del Sol remains a beacon for international golfers seeking exceptional experiences both on and off the course.
